Dr. Stefanos Ioannou completed his PhD in Economics at University of Leeds in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Gary Dymski and Prof. Malcolm Sawyer. Prior to his doctoral studies he completed an MPhil in Economics at the University of Athens (2012) and an MSc in Finance at Newcastle University (2009). His main research interests are macroeconomics, political economy, banking and finance, and economic geography. Stefanos has published in a variety of peer-reviewed academic journals, including amongst others, Economic Geography; Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money; Regional Studies; Urban Studies; and Review of Political Economy.
He currently works at Oxford Brookes University as Senior Lecturer in Economics, where he leads a variety of modules, covering contemporary issues in finance, economic development, international trade, and international labour markets. Previously, he has worked as a post-doc researcher at the University of Oxford (2017- 2021), as part of a large interdisciplinary research project on the post-crisis development of the financial sector and centres (ERC project; Cities in Global Financial Networks: Finance and Development in the 21st Century; principal investigator: Prof. Dariusz Wójcik). He has also lectured at University College Cork, teaching advanced macroeconomics and finance.
